Orange you glad it's Christmas?

Perhaps my most creative teacher gift thus far came on Thursday in the form of a case of Sweet Florida Oranges. My student excitedly asked me to pull my car up to their Suburban, which, upon doing so, I noticed was filled to the brim with boxes and boxes of naval oranges. They even had the back seats let down so that they could fit more in.

The parent seemed to recognize the awkwardness of my singleton status as she and her daughter struggled to place the heavy crate in my car. "You'll just have to share them with your family!" she said brightly.

Mom told me to take them out of the box and spread them out in my refrigerator until I go home next week so that they'll keep. I gave five to Cal, since his parents are in town. This is what I have leftover:
At least I stand a pretty darn good chance against that bout of Scurvy that's been going around.

Court TV

My sister Beth was supposed to be on Court TV yesterday testifying in the trial about the Savannah Debutante who was shot last year. I'm not sure if she made it to tv or not because I was working, but here's the article/video from the Savannah news station. Sad situation, but kinda cool for Beth.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page. Ha!

Also, remember this post? Yeah, I went to this year's last night. I actually kind of enjoyed it. Kind of. What is happening to me??? Where is my edge* going? Anna Counts was there. She was as unhappy about it last night as I was last year. Be warned, Anna: if you stay in Macon too long, you might start enjoying those things. Might. Not that I do. No ma'am.

And finally: Hahahahhahahahahahahahaha!

*I am still under the delusion that I have (or at least once had) edge.

School Days

I just received my first Christmas gift, here on December 1. A student gave me a box of chocolates, and the others were immediately drawn to my desk like moths to a flame. I had offers of peppermints, a week of silence, and no bathroom use for a month in exchange for my gift. No thanks! I'll take chocolate (and the pounds that go with it) any day!

It's Friday, and I'm dressed a little more casually today than usual. Not real casual, mind you; I'm in pants (not jeans), and I'm wearing a black sweater. But I've got on tennis shoes, so I feel a little more dressed down. One of my students just commented that I look "homey". Homey? Yes, she said. Like you're sitting at home in front of your television. I wasn't sure how to take that piece of information (do I look like I'm in my pjs?), but she assured me that it was a compliment. Um, okay. Thanks?

The weather has finally turned nice here this afternoon at the end of a rainy, gray week. It's amazing to me how the weather affects my mood! I've been grumpy and irritable and tired the last few days. I'm feeling much nicer today, though, much to my friends' relief. Looking forward to a weekend with beautiful blue skies and nothing to do; I've been out of town the last two weekends and feel like I need to catch up on my sleep.

Yes, I've changed my blog template, but no, not for any reason in particular. I just thought it was time for something new. The adjustment did remove my links and my addictive map, however, so I'm going to go figure out a way to get them back, if possible. Hope y'all are all well.

And happy late birthday to Rebecca!!
