I personally think that dress-down days are the best invention ever. When I'm in my jeans, not only do I feel more comfortable, but I also sense more of a connection with my students as I am meeting them on their level.
(In light of the James Frey/Million Little Pieces scandal, I feel the necessity to make an author's note here that it might not, technically, be a dress-down day here. However, my interpretation of a Friday (and one before a, um, major? holiday -- Valentine's, of course) is that it's a dress down day that automatically includes permission to wear jeans. If that permission is unstated, then it's just an oversight on behalf of the administration. And if that's my interpretation, then it's truth. Isn't that the argument?)
